🌿The Orchid Monkey

The Monkey Orchid is one of the most fascinating epiphytic orchids. Its short, sturdy creeping stems reach a height of  30 to 40 centimeters. Its leaves, arranged alternately, are broadly oval and have a characteristic lance-like shape when viewed from above. Roots grow from the nodes of the stems. The flowers, arranged in loose clusters, emerge from the leaf axils. Their funnel shape and yellow color, often sprinkled with purple-red, add to their mystery.

The Italian red door orchid ( scientific name: Orchis italica Poir. ), also known as the naked male orchid or Italian male orchid, is a variety of the red door orchid family. The plant is 20–50 cm tall, with terminal flowers that are pink, white or purple. The tepals are helmet-shaped with dark stripes, and the entire flower resembles a naked man wearing a straw hat. The capsule is erect, and the flowering period is between April and May. 🌸

The flower language of the Italian red door orchid is like its form, full of free and unbridled feelings, putting aside the world's gaze to grow healthily and vigorously. 🌿

🌸  Paphiopedilum micranthum - La Fleur de Vénus

Paphiopedilum micranthum, commonly known as the "Venus Flower", is one of the most primitive populations of the orchid family. It is also one of the most popular and widely cultivated plants in the world. Paphiopedilums remain green all year round, with glossy leaves and richly colored flowers. Their large flowers and long blooming period make them unique. What sets  Paphiopedilum apart most is its flower stem that rises proudly above the foliage, with a pocket-like lip resembling a slipper. Their adorable appearance and bright colors make them a popular plant among plant lovers.

Each plant produces a single flower, with a flower stalk emerging from the foliage, measuring between  9 and 25 cm (3.5 to 10 inches)  long. The flowers are large and beautiful, mostly pink in color.

Paphiopedilum parishii is an orchid native to regions of Southeast Asia, particularly Burma and Thailand. This species is particularly prized for its distinctive flowers that resemble slippers, hence its nickname " Mary's Slipper " orchid. Paphiopedilum parishii flowers display a variety of colours, ranging from green to brown with occasional purple or white markings, making them very attractive to collectors. This orchid is also renowned for its ability to adapt to shady environments, making it an excellent option for indoor growing. It typically flowers once a year with a flowering period that can extend over several weeks, providing a long-lasting and captivating display . 🌿🌸

An Australian specialty, the Flying Duck Orchid, scientifically called Caleana major, is famous for its flower that evokes a small duck in flight, hence its name. Unique to Australia, this orchid remains rare and highly prized, especially among collectors and lovers of botanical curiosities. It symbolizes the unique diversity of Australian flora, just like the koala and the platypus. 🦆🌸

The heron flower ( Pecteilis radiata ), also called heron grass or narrow-leaved butterfly orchid, is an iconic perennial terrestrial orchid native to China, Japan, Korea and Russia. Its unique shape evokes a white heron in courtship, with pure white, serrated petals that open like wings, offering an almost angelic spectacle. Each spike can produce 2 to 8 flowers, making this plant exceptionally attractive. 🌸🌿

Anguloa, nicknamed "baby in a cradle" because of its appearance that evokes a gestating egg, is an orchid native to the Andean regions of South America, such as Venezuela, Ecuador, Colombia, Bolivia and Peru. This flower, which resembles a closed tulip, is famous for its imposing beauty and rarity. It thrives at altitudes of 1500 to 2500 meters, with Colombia as its main distribution center. 🌺🌿

How to grow seeds?

1. First, loosen the soil, then place your seeds 1/8 to 1/2 inch (0.3 to 0.5 cm) deep in the soil, being careful not to bury them too deep or too close together.
2. Next, check if the temperature is suitable for germination of these seeds to make sure they will grow well. The ideal temperature is 18 to 25 degrees.
3. Water the seeds once or twice a day, but not too much.
4. Finally, keep the soil moist and expose it to sunlight.

Seeds usually take 15-25 days to germinate, so be patient!

Advice :

Soaking the seeds in warm water for 8 hours before planting will be beneficial if the seeds are larger than 0.5 mm. Due to their dormant state, the seeds need to absorb enough water to germinate.
